Jixi is a city with a population of 421,000 in the east of Heilongjiang district in the People's Republic of China. Jixi is about 30 km from the border with Russia and 120 km from Khanka Lake. The mayor of Jixi is Wang Zhaoli. Coal mining is very important to the economy of the area. The Jixi Mining Group has frequently gained media attention from disasters in coal mines. A crater on asteroid 253 Mathilde was named after the city.
